MSVPAC closes out a successful 2011
January 2012
By year end, the Medical Society of Virginia Political Action Committee (MSVPAC) raised $287,662 in 2011. This amount surpasses 2010 contributions by over $83,000.
MSVPAC deeply appreciates the support of its 492 donors who made it possible for MSVPAC to contribute over $166,000 to 79 candidates running for office in the General Assembly last year.
Other MSVPAC accomplishments in 2011 included the formation of a development committee, which helped to drive MSVPAC’s successful fundraising year and a well-attended donor recognition reception held in conjunction with the MSV Annual Meeting in October. Also at the annual meeting, the MSVPAC Board elected a slate of new officers and ten new directors. Throughout the year, MSVPAC also provided financial support to seven component societies to support their local legislative events that bring together physicians and members of the General Assembly, including support for those component societies in District 2 that hosted the successful “Grill Your Legislator” event prior to last year’s elections.
MSVPAC also held political fundraisers at MSV headquarters for the four physician members of the General Assembly as well as for budget negotiator Del. Chris Jones. These events were well attended by physicians and health care lobbyists.
In 2012, MSVPAC has plans for a donor recognition task force to make recommendations to the MSVPAC board of directors on how better to recognize and thank contributors. This effort will complement MSVPAC's strategic efforts to increase its donor base and total contributions. MSVPAC will also be tapping into resources provided by the AMA Political Action Committee (AMPAC) which includes review of MSVPAC fundraising and marketing programs by a fundraising expert who will advise MSVPAC on how to enhance these efforts.
Don’t forget—political advocacy is a year-round activity. We look forward to your continued support in 2012. To make your 2012 contribution to MSVPAC, visit
